PolyMem provides unparalleled benefits for clinicians and patients. Unlike foam dressings primarily designed to absorb, PolyMem wound dressings are designed to reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and facilitate healing. PolyMem is a multifunctional wound dressing referred to as a polymeric membrane. While promoting continued healing, PolyMem cleanses, fills, moisturizes, and absorbs the wound. The reasons why PolyMem works better than any other wound dressing are the synergistic actions of all active components.
LET'S GET TO KNOW THE COMPONENTS:
SURFACTANT: Essentially, a surfactant is a substance that, when added to a liquid, reduces surface tension and enhances spreading and heating properties in the region. Due to the properties of incompatible molecules, surfactant can combine materials that normally do not mix. Surfactant, one of the active components of PolyMem, provides rapid otolytic debridement by reducing surface tension and cleaning residues accumulated in the wound bed.
GLYCEROL: Glycerol, one of PolyMem's components, prevents maceration around the wound, ensuring optimum moisture balance for wound healing. It prevents the dressing from sticking.
STARCH COPOLYMER: While reducing leakage risks, starch copolymer provides superior absorption and liquid retention properties to the polymeric membrane.
Semipermeable MVTR transparent film support: It allows oxygen to permeate while blocking pathogens.
Polymeric membrane matrix: Provides a soft, hydrophilic open-cell effect. PolyMem has been proven to provide a unique and synergistic effect in injured tissues with surfactant, glycerin, and super-absorbent components. Thanks to its unique technology, PolyMem:
Protects against damage and contaminants,
Continuously cleans the wound,
Optimizes moisture content,
Enhances otolytic debridement,
Accelerates epithelialization,
Provides analgesic effects (when all active components act together, collectively reducing nociceptor activity and sensitivity to alleviate or eliminate pain),
Manages thermoregulation.
POLYMEM Silver
PROTECTS
PolyMem Silver belongs to the innovative and adaptable class of wound care dressings, including PolyMem Wic Silver®, PolyMem Wic Silver Strip, PolyMem Max Silver®, and PolyMem Silver® Shapes. PolyMem Silver wound dressings effectively clean, fill, absorb, and moisturize wounds throughout the healing process. The unique formulation of PolyMem combines these four fundamental wound healing abilities in a way that no other dressing can.
Silver has a long and safe history as an antimicrobial agent in wound treatment. High-purity small silver particles, formulated with PolyMem to maximize surface area and effectiveness, are evenly distributed and bound to the membrane. Silver ions that provide antimicrobial effects are released from the surface of silver particles when they come into contact with moisture. In antimicrobial efficacy tests using various in vitro methods, PolyMem Silver dressings have eliminated at least 99.9% of the entire population of every organism tested.
- The tested bacteria and fungi are samples of organisms found in clinical environments.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
When you use PolyMem Silver on a wound, the moisture and liquids in the wound bed are absorbed by the dressing, and silver ions, which protect the dressing from microbial contamination, are released. In addition to silver, the PolyMem Silver membrane contains a clinically proven, non-ionic, non-toxic, tissue-friendly cleanser that helps loosen necrotic tissue, crusts, and other residues. The hydrophilic polyurethane membrane matrix containing starch copolymer draws liquid and exudate from the wound bed. While facilitating the super absorption of liquids, it swells into a non-adherent gel. As the membrane matrix expands during exudate absorption, it fills and conforms to the wounds. Additionally, glycerol (also known as glycerin) helps prevent adhesion to the wound bed, allowing the dressing or filler to be removed without disturbing the wound bed. Glycerol softens lifeless tissues while also assisting in odor control. Except for cavity filling, the membrane is coated with a semi-permeable, permanent film underlayment optimized for oxygen and water vapor permeability and as a barrier to liquids.
PolyMem Silver can be used as a substitute for other silver-containing dressings because dressings provide a continuous silver reservoir while supporting the healing of moist wounds.
BENEFITS
- Regularly produces silver ions from a continuous silver reservoir. Reduces the biological load on the dressing.
- Eliminates 99.9% of the entire population of tested bacteria and fungi. Contains unique silver particles.
- Eliminates the need for secondary dressings. (Except for the use of PolyMem Wic Silver or PolyMem Wic Silver Strip)
- Absorbs up to 10 times the weight of the dressing in exudate. Provides a moist wound environment for improved treatment.
- Indicates when dressing changes are needed due to its transparent, thin backing. (Except for the use of PolyMem Wic Silver or PolyMem Wic Silver Strip)
- Does not adhere to the wound bed, minimizing damage to the wound bed after removal.
- Continuously cleans the wound, reducing the need for wound bed cleaning during dressing changes. Does not leave stains on the skin.
- Helps alleviate wound pain and increase comfort. No need for moisturizing.
